I wish I was special
Today (or yesterday now) is (was) an anniversary of sorts; Lisa and I have been together for three and a half years. A lot of people who I've mentioned that to said it was a really long time, but it really isn't a long time, and it hasn't felt like a long time. My grandparents have been married for more than 50 years. That's a long time.
mid came down this weekend. He seemed rather bored for most of the time, and the only time he talked was to mock me. So all in all it was a good time. We ended up watching Fight Club twice, since it was on HBO twice. Actually the second time we watched the DVD with the commentary audio track. It's pretty funny. They make fun of a lot of things. I seem to recall there were other movies that we watched and I grumbled that they were on VHS and so I had to rewind them. So now I have two justifications for owning a DVD player: not having to change tapes in the middle of Braveheart and not having to rewind.
Today a filing cabinet got moved into my apartment. This ended up being a very good thing because it forced me to move around a lot of the junk underneath my desk, and everything is much more organized. Before, things got put underneath my desk as they were acquired, and so all the wires were really quite in disarray. Now everything is much more organized, and the printer got moved off the desk onto the filing cabinet, freeing up lots of space on the desk. And Lisa made me help her clean before mid came down, so now I can actually see the surface of my desk. It's frightening. But I do like the organization underneath the desk a lot better.
In the process of moving things around I decided to remove the KVM switch from the whole setup, since it added 7 wires and wasn't hooked up to a keyboard, video display, or mouse. I'm debating what to do with it now. I have no need for it now but it may serve a purpose later in my life (most likely not though since I like having my mouse plugged into my keyboard, which means they need to use USB). If any of you want a Belkin 4-port KVM with wires let me know. (The wires are labeled and tied together in groups! It's nifty. It makes things really really easy. I wasn't the one that did that though. The guy I bought the KVM and wires from did.) Actually if I cared, I might get a USB KVM, since all the computers I have have USB ports. Though penguin's still running 2.2.17 and doesn't have any USB stuff compiled in, so I'd need to reboot it to use USB, and it's just not worth it. (The only thing currently plugged into penguin besides power is its ethernet cable.)
Lately I've been considering buying an Apple computer, not so much to play with OS X (though that's part of the reason), but mostly to play with Linux on the PPC (and also to just generally increase the number of working computers I own). I've also been playing with the idea of getting an Alpha for similar reasons. And every once in a while I think it might be neat to get an x86 computer that's maybe 3 years old, put a decent-sized hard disk in it, and put a half-dozen operating systems on it. If any of you have such hardware you'd like to donate to me (or sell reasonably cheaply) let me know. (I know, Ebay.)
